Zhang Yang is known for her unconventional and futuristic compositions and giving the music a new touch of inspiration. She is a born creative-minded personality and has accomplished a lot with more to come in her illustrated career.

Hollywood-based film composer and music producer Yang Zhang (also known as Zhang Yang, Chinese characters “张旸”) pursues a multi-faced career in film scoring, music publishing, digital music startup, and other digital media related business endeavors. Her music career can be traced back to her childhood. After taking years of classical music training, she built her early-stage music career as a composer then immediately jumped into the diverse landscape of electronic music, which she nows blends into her film music. Additionally, she officially became a member of the Academy Television Arts & Science (Emmy) music peer group. In 2012, her creative music production sparked franchise “Transformer”video game director, Flint Dille’s interest, who invited her to join his creative team for the trans media franchise titled “Tiki WikiTiki”.

After beating out more than several thousands applicants, composer and music producer Zhang Yang (also known as Yang Zhang) won the award for Best Music for a Non-Produced Film for her track “The World Is Retro” at the Views of the World Film & Music Festival. The cool thing about this music project is that it has a totally independent value while remaining the score function for this new media project. The chemistry between film noir and EDM is so organic; you can smell their seamless connection.” said Zhang Yang following receiving the award for Best Music for a Non-Produced Film. The style of Zhang Yang’s work is diverse and unique with a blend of retro and future. This award-winning music composition is derived from her score project titled “Tikiwikifiki” for Flint Dille. Flint is known for his animated work for box office super hits such as Transformers and G.I. Joe. The whole score part evolves a sense of film noir style by infusing futuristic EDM music elements, re-defining the renaissance style by the touch of futurism.

Q&A with Zhang Yang

Zhang Yang (also known as Yang Zhang 张旸) doesn’t only produce a broad range of music but she also has an extensive knowledge and background in the music business too. Pursuing a multi-faceted career which has seen her broaden her horizons beyond EDM to becoming an entertainment executive, music publisher as well as film composer.

The classically-trained producer has already travelled from her LA base to Europe to perform at contemporary music festivals and broadcast in France, Italy, Belgium and Holland. Or, at least it didn’t develop in the way as it is supposed to be. The reality is, Hollywood film business continues to cut down the time allotted for score development to save expense. And still, the music department is always the first place to reduce the budget.
